Lidl leggings……A case of substance over style!!

I was very chuffed with my recent purchase of running leggings from the Lidl in Albir. Who needs to spend unnecessary dosh on Nike or Ronhill when you can get a pair from the Harrods of the Costa Blanca for 8 euros…………well I’m not quite so smug now!!
I’ve become a bit of a fair weather runner since moving to Spain. Back in the Uk I ran all through the Winter in shorts and T-shirt, no problem, but now ( I am a few years older, I hasten to add ), at the first sign of cloud or rain I search for any excuse not to go out.
However, with a marathon just over 5 weeks away, I had no choice but to brave the rain & wind today. Just a short run, I thought…………nice and snug in my new leggings. Actually, the sun had made an appearance by the time I eventually psyched myself up for it about 3.30pm ( incidentally, a bit of a worry as the Barcelona race starts @ 8.30am – I may have to get up at 4.30am!!), and even though the new garments made me look like Max Wall ( ask your grandad!! ) I set off feeling quite comfortable…………..Not for long!! Within about 10 minutes, the bottoms had begun to ride up my calves, and even worse I couldn’t keep the waist up either, as the drawstring wouldn’t hold properly. I persevered, and did my normal 9 mile run in quite a fast time. By the time I’d reached the Lighthouse I’d given up trying to adjust the bloody things, and just got on with it. In fact as i ran into a bitterly cold Northerly headwind on the way home I was very grateful for their protection.
So all in all, a pleasing run……….only the second since Sunday, but my stamina is quite good. Must be the 4 spin classes I’m taking every week, although I feel exhausted the majority of the time.
Will the ‘ Lidl leggings ‘ be making an appearance again….?? Who Knows?………………In the end the bottoms had riden up to just below the knee, and the crotch had sunk to marginally above the knee, so I bore an uncanny resemblance to an ‘ oompaloompa ‘ , but when the North wind blows, who gives a toss about fashion!! The photos are before the run by the way………..no visual evidence exists after the run – thank goodness.
